France, April 2000. Aix-en-Provence

Having stayed in a virtual ghost town on the previous trip to France in 1998, we decided that we would stay in a large town this time. Aix-en-Provence turned out to be a good choice. Our friend, Fred Talbot, of Granada Weather fame, joined us for part of the trip. He flew down to Nice and rented a car and met us in Aix. I didn't take any photos in Aix but here are the pictures of the days out we did.

Ren and Fred (241k) Me and Ren (259k) Me and Ren (256k) We went to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, a place where a large pool forms under a tall cliff. The water is rain from the top which has filtered its way through the cliff.

We also did day trips to St. Tropez                         and Bandol.
St. Tropez Car Park (271k) "I wonder what all the poor people are doing now?" (216k) St. Tropez Harbour (239k)               Bandol (163k) Bandol (207k)

Bikes in Bandol (156k) Bandol is a great place. On Sundays it's the local biking Mecca, a bit like Matlock Bath in Derbyshire. There are three beaches and loads of bars and restaurants along the front. There are also some very nice boats in the harbour. We liked it so much that we decided to stay there the following year.
