France, April 2002. Bandol

We decided to stay in Bandol again. It's a great place and ideally situated for rides out. After being so tired the last time when we did the whole trip in one day, we decided to take two days this time. We stopped overnight in Beaune which is almost exactly half way. We stayed in the Novotel, which you can see over to the right after leaving the motorway. This turned out to be an expensive night, the rooms were not too bad but we had several pints in the bar followed by a bottle of Beaune 1er Cru and a big meal.

Ready for day two (158k) The beach from the hotel balcony (130k) The beach from the hotel balcony (133k) Next day we set off after a good breakfast and arrived in Bandol at about 5pm, very tired and looking forward to large quantities of beer (well, it's not proper beer, it's lager). For only the second time we had managed to get there without seeing any rain.

Cap Canaille, The D141 goes over the top The D141, known as the Route des crêtes My bike at the top of Cap Canaille (116k) Ren at the top of Cap Canaille (113k) We did a trip to a small town along the coast called Cassis. There were two reasons for this, firstly to have a look at Cassis and secondly to try the D141 which goes over the top of Cap Canaille.

The entrance to Paul Ricard (95k) Ren at Le Nautic (147k) Me at Le Nautic (108k) We also did a trip to Paul Ricard, the N8 really is a fantastic road.
But no matter what we did or where we went we always ended up in the bar called Le Nautic.
